My name is Rui Wang. I was born in Xi’an, China, and am a German Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney, and a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). I have been working in the field of intellectual property since 2017.
My technical background is electrical engineering and information technology. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University, followed by two master’s degrees from Tongji University in Shanghai and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). I subsequently completed my doctoral studies at the Chair of Materials Handling, Material Flow and Logistics at TUM, where my research focused on the Internet of Things and Logistics 4.0. Two of my research publications received the “Best Paper Award”.
My professional focus in intellectual property lies in the fields of electrical engineering and information technology, particularly in mobile communications, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous driving and connected vehicles, audio and video technologies, robotics, secure communications, and other computer-implemented inventions. In my work with clients, I have handled a wide range of complex patent matters, including standard-related patent applications.
In my practice, I have gained extensive experience in both the drafting and prosecution of European and German patent applications. I am familiar with the examination practices of the European Patent Office (EPO) and the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), and I am able to develop well-founded technical arguments based on a thorough understanding of the underlying technology, thereby efficiently advancing examination proceedings.
At the same time, I place particular emphasis on the overall quality of patent applications and their prospects for grant. By combining a deep understanding of the relevant technologies with a structured approach to patent protection, I draft high-quality patent applications aimed at achieving a well-balanced and effective scope of protection.
Since the beginning of my professional career, I have advised a broad range of clients, including large technology companies, research institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, and start-ups. If you have any patent-related questions or are interested in potential cooperation, please feel free to contact me.
