My name is Rui Wang. I was born in Xi’an, China, and am a German Patent Attorney, a European Patent Attorney, and a representative before the Unified Patent Court (UPC). I have been working in intellectual property since 2017.
My technical background is in electrical engineering and information technology with a focus on communications engineering. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University, followed by a joint master’s program at Tongji University in Shanghai and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), through which I earned master’s degrees from both universities. I subsequently completed my doctoral studies at the Chair of Materials Handling, Material Flow and Logistics at TUM, where my research focused on the Internet of Things and Logistics 4.0. Two of my research publications received Best Paper Awards.
My technical expertise includes mobile communications (LTE/5G/6G), artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous and connected vehicles, audio and video technologies, control systems and robotics, as well as other computer-implemented inventions (CIIs). In these fields, I have handled a wide range of complex patent matters, including standard-related patent applications.
Since the beginning of my professional career, I have advised a broad range of clients, including large international technology companies, research institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises, and start-ups. I have extensive experience in the strategic drafting and prosecution of complex patent applications, with a strong focus on long-term strategy and on securing a robust and enforceable scope of protection.
I currently practice independently and collaborate with the IP boutique WBH Wachenhausen (www.wachenhausen.com) as Of Counsel. In addition to my work in patent drafting and prosecution, I can work with experienced teams on patent infringement litigation, nullity proceedings, and other complex patent disputes.
